This spire was made of flint and was found in a gravel pit near Soupir along the Aisne. It is a typical product of the H. Neanderthalensis.
Made according to the Levallois technique. A revolutionary technique in which a core block was carefully prepared and where a perfect blade (with a typical triangular shape) could then be struck. The core (nucleus) was not used any further. It is estimated that this technique was developed about 300,000 years ago.
This spire is very nicely retouched. There is recent damage, probably due to the exploitation of the quarry, visible in the color difference in the patina.
