Ammoniten waren Kopffüßer-Mollusken – Verwandte des heutigen Nautilus und Tintenfischs – die über 300 Millionen Jahre lang die Weltmeere beherrschten, bevor sie am Ende der Kreidezeit ausstarben. Benannt nach dem ägyptischen Gott Ammon mit den gewundenen Widderhörnern, denen ihre Schalen ähneln, reichten Ammoniten in der Größe von wenigen Millimetern bis über zwei Metern Durchmesser. Dieses Paar, aus Madagaskar stammend und auf die Unterkreide vor etwa 115 Millionen Jahren datiert, zeigt die Art in ihrer visuell spektakulärsten Form.
Jeder Ammonit dieses passenden Paares wurde präzise durch die Mitte geschnitten und poliert, um die komplexe innere Kammerstruktur – die Septen und Nahtlinien, die die Schale in eine Reihe gasgefüllter Kammern teilten, die das Tier zur Auftriebskontrolle nutzte – sichtbar zu machen. Die für madagassische Ammoniten typische irisierende Mineralisierung verleiht den polierten Flächen eine juwelenähnliche Qualität, mit Farben, die je nach Licht von tiefem Bernstein bis Grün und Gold wechseln. Mit Displayständern geliefert, ist das Paar sofort präsentationsbereit.

This was part of a double order, same as my other review. I’m new to pinning as a hobby in my spare time. From what I can tell they’re good specimens with plenty of variety. My only gripe is that they didn’t come with ID but that wouldn’t stop me from ordering again. Hopefully ID can be added to future purchases.
