Orthetrum testaceum, the Scarlet Skimmer, is one of the most widespread and instantly recognisable dragonflies across South and Southeast Asia, extending through the Pacific to Hawaii and beyond. A member of the large family Libellulidae, males are a uniform and vivid scarlet-red across the entire body — the species name testaceum referring to the brick-red or tile-red colouration — with largely hyaline wings that allow the brilliant body colour to take centre stage. One of the most cosmopolitan of all red dragonflies, testaceum is a classic and immediately appealing specimen that is equally at home in a beginner’s first collection or a seasoned odonatologist’s comparative Libellulidae series. This was part of a double order, same as my other review. I’m new to pinning as a hobby in my spare time. From what I can tell they’re good specimens with plenty of variety. My only gripe is that they didn’t come with ID but that wouldn’t stop me from ordering again. Hopefully ID can be added to future purchases.
