Thelyphonus feuerborni הוא עקרב שוט מסדרת Uropygi — אחת משושלות העכבישניים העתיקות והייחודיות ביותר מבחינה מורפולוגית על פני כדור הארץ, עם תיעוד מאובנים המשתרע על פני יותר מ-300 מיליון שנה, עד לתקופת הקרבון. הוא נקרא לכבוד הזואולוג הגרמני היינריך יאקוב פוירבורן (1883–1969), שערך מחקר מקיף על עולם חסרי החוליות של ג'אווה ושל הארכיפלג האינדונזי. למרות שמם הנפוץ, עקרבי שוט אינם עקרבים אמיתיים — הם שייכים לסדרה נפרדת לחלוטין של עכבישניים, וחסרים הן בלוטות ארס והן זנב עוקץ. במקום זאת, המאפיין המגדיר של ה-Uropygi הוא שוטון ארוך דמוי שוט בקצה הזנב — איבר חישה ולא כלי נשק — וכן היכולת להתיז הפרשה הגנתית של חומצה אצטית (חומץ) מבלוטות שבבסיס השוטון, ולכן הקבוצה זכתה גם בשם הנפוץ החלופי ‘עקרבי חומץ’. תוספת עתיקה באמת, יוצאת דופן מבחינה אנטומית ומרתקת במיוחד לכל אוסף רציני של תולדות הטבע או למחקר ארכנולוגי.
