Plecia pealei, המוכר בדרך כלל כחרק האהבה או כזבוב מרץ, שייך למשפחת Bibionidae (סדרת двוקנפיים) וחי בסביבות של אגמי מים מתוקים קדומים בתקופת האאוקן, לפני כ־45–50 מיליון שנה. דגימות אלה נאספו משכבות הדגים של תצורת גרין ריבר בוויומינג, ארה"ב — שכבה נדירה ויוקרתית יותר משכבות העלים הנאספות בדרך כלל — והן ידועות ברמת השתמרותן יוצאת הדופן, כאשר עורקי הכנפיים ומבנה הרגליים נראים לעיתים קרובות בבירור.
תצורת גרין ריבר היא אחד מאתרי המאובנים החשובים בעולם, הידועה בדיוק יוצא הדופן שבו היא משמרת חיים קדומים בפצלי שמן עדיני־גרגיר. מאובני חרקים מתצורה זו מוערכים במיוחד בשל רמת הפירוט האנטומי שהם משמרים לאורך עשרות מיליוני שנים.
