תכלילים בענבר הם יצורים שנקברו בשרף עצים עתיק — לא בשרף גולמי — לפני מיליוני שנים. כאשר השרף עטף את הדגימה, החל בו תהליך טבעי של פילמור: תחילה הוא התקשה לקופל, ולאחר מיליוני שנים של קבורה ולחץ גאולוגי, הפך לבסוף לענבר אמיתי. התוצאה היא חלון לעולם שאבד: יצורים שנשתמרו בפרטי פרטים יוצאי דופן, מרחפים בזמן כאילו נלכדו רק אתמול.
