Thelyphonus feuerborniは、地球上で最も古く形態的に特徴のあるクモ形類の系統の一つであるUropygi目に属するムチサソリです。その化石記録は石炭紀までさかのぼり、3億年以上に及びます。ジャワ島およびインドネシア諸島の無脊椎動物相を広く研究したドイツの動物学者ハインリヒ・ヤーコプ・フォイアーボルン（1883～1969）にちなんで命名されました。一般名に「サソリ」と付いていますが、ムチサソリは真のサソリではなく、毒腺も毒針もつ尾も持たない、まったく別のクモ形類の目です。Uropygiを特徴づけるのは、尾端にある長いムチ状の鞭毛です。これは武器ではなく感覚器官であり、鞭毛の基部にある腺から酢酸（酢）を含む防御分泌物を噴射する能力も備えています。このため、このグループには「ビネガルーン」という別名があります。真に古代的で、解剖学的に驚くべき、非常に魅力的な標本であり、本格的な自然史コレクションやクモ形類研究にふさわしい逸品です。
