Turnix suscitator는 아시아에 널리 분포하는 꼬리치레류 가운데 하나로, 인도와 스리랑카에서 동남아시아를 거쳐 중국 남부, 필리핀, 인도네시아 제도에 이르기까지 분포합니다. 메추라기와 비슷한 외형을 지녔지만 꼬리치레류는 진정한 메추라기가 아닙니다. 이들은 도요·물떼새와 갈매기류에 더 가까운 도요목(Charadriiformes)에 속하며, 겉모습이 유사한 꿩목 사냥새와는 계통적으로 다릅니다. 이는 수렴 진화의 놀라운 사례입니다. 아시아의 생물학적으로 가장 독특한 새들 중 하나인 꼬리치레류는 일부다처제가 아니라 일부다처적 번식 양식을 보입니다. 암컷이 더 크고 색이 선명하며 영역을 두고 경쟁하는 반면, 수컷은 혼자 알을 품고 새끼를 기릅니다. 꼬리치레류의 골격은 해부학적으로 뚜렷한 특징을 지니는데, 특히 뒷발가락(엄지발가락)이 없다는 점이 주목할 만합니다. 이는 땅에서 생활하는 새들 사이에서도 독특한 특징으로, 이 표본에서 명확하게 확인할 수 있습니다. 또한 울창한 초지 생활에 적응한 작고 단단한 체형과 짧고 강력한 다리도 관찰됩니다. 진지한 자연사 수집품이나 조류학 연구에 과학적으로 매우 뛰어나고 깊은 흥미를 더해 주는 표본입니다.

This was part of a double order, same as my other review. I’m new to pinning as a hobby in my spare time. From what I can tell they’re good specimens with plenty of variety. My only gripe is that they didn’t come with ID but that wouldn’t stop me from ordering again. Hopefully ID can be added to future purchases.
