Een van de meest indrukwekkende insecten van Zuidoost-Azië, Neocerambyx gigas is de reus van de familie Cerambycidae. Gevangen in Thailand, wordt elk exemplaar individueel drooggeprepareerd en uitgespreid volgens museumstandaard — waarbij de rijk gestructureerde fluwelen dekschilden in diep kastanjebruin en de indrukwekkend lange, gesegmenteerde antennes die de langhoornlijn kenmerken, prachtig worden getoond. Een pronkstuk voor elke serieuze Coleoptera- of natuurhistorische collectie.
Neocerambyx gigas behoort tot de grootste langhoornboktorren die er bestaan. Grote mannetjes worden vooral gewaardeerd om hun robuuste proporties en indrukwekkende uitstraling — een soort die de grootsheid van tropische biodiversiteit uitstraalt en elke bezoeker stil doet staan.
