Zygonyx ida is a powerful and fast-flying torrent hawk dragonfly within the family Libellulidae, distributed across South and Southeast Asia. The genus Zygonyx — the torrent hawks — is specialised for life along fast-flowing rivers and waterfalls, where these strong, agile fliers patrol turbulent water with remarkable precision and speed. Named after Ida, a figure from classical mythology, Zygonyx ida is a robust and handsomely marked species with the elongated, powerful build characteristic of the genus, well adapted to the demanding conditions of its torrent habitat. Torrent hawks are among the more challenging and rewarding dragonflies to collect, given their preference for remote, fast-flowing waterways, lending each specimen an additional layer of field interest.
