Lonchura maja is a small, sociable estrildid finch native to the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Java, and Bali, and widely introduced across Southeast Asia. Instantly recognisable by its striking contrast of pure white head and chestnut-brown body, it is a familiar species of open grasslands, rice fields, and scrub, often encountered in large flocks. A popular cagebird across the region, it is one of the most distinctive munias in the genus Lonchura. The estrildid skeleton is a refined and well-proportioned example of passerine osteology — featuring the characteristic robust bill adapted for seed husking, compact furcula, and slender hindlimb bones clearly preserved in this specimen. A precise and elegant addition to any serious natural history collection or artistic display.
