About This Specimen

Xenochrophis vittatus is a slender, semi-aquatic natricine snake endemic to the western Indonesian archipelago — principally Java, Sumatra, and Borneo — where it inhabits rice paddies, marshes, riverbanks, and other freshwater wetland habitats. Distinguished from its congener X. melanzostus by its characteristic longitudinal striping — the source of the specific epithet vittatus, meaning ‘banded’ or ‘striped’ — it is a more slender and gracile species, reflecting a subtly different ecological niche within the same wetland environments. Like all members of the genus, it is a diurnal, active hunter of frogs and small fish. The natricid skeleton presents a well-proportioned and gracile example of semi-aquatic ophidian osteology — featuring a refined vertebral column, and a skull adapted for grasping slippery aquatic prey — all clearly preserved in this specimen. Presented in a coiled form, this skeleton captures the species’ compact resting posture in a display-ready configuration — a precise and scientifically interesting addition to any serious collection or artistic display.

Perfect for herpetologists, naturalists, natural history collectors, educators, artists, and interior designers seeking authentic specimens with genuine scientific and aesthetic value.
