Esses nódulos se formaram há milhões de anos, quando a atividade vulcânica matou pequenos seres marinhos e sedimentos se acumularam ao redor de seus restos. Com o tempo, o material endureceu, encolheu e rachou para dentro, preenchendo-se com minerais contrastantes para criar o padrão geométrico marcante que torna cada espécime septariano totalmente único.
Este corte em forma livre destaca os contornos naturais da pedra, enquanto a superfície polida realça toda a profundidade da cor e da estrutura interna — marrons quentes, ocres e veios cinza-pretos que mudam com a luz.
