Distinguida pelas suas vívidas bandas iridescentes verdes e azuis nas asas, sobre um fundo preto profundo, insulicola representa a notável diversidade biogeográfica existente no grupo peranthus ao longo das cadeias de ilhas da região. A sua distribuição restrita e a coloração excecional da espécie fazem dela uma adição cativante e relativamente rara a qualquer coleção séria de Papilionidae ou de borboletas do Sudeste Asiático.
