Estes espécimes provêm da Formação do Xisto de Wheeler, House Range, Antelope Springs, condado de Millard, Utah, EUA, depositada há aproximadamente 507 milhões de anos, durante o Câmbrico Médio.
O Xisto de Wheeler representa um ambiente marinho profundo e tranquilo, onde sedimentos finos se acumularam em camadas delgadas e fissíveis. As condições de pouco oxigénio no fundo marinho impediram a decomposição extensa e protegeram os restos frágeis dos necrófagos, produzindo a preservação extraordinária pela qual esta formação é celebrada. O Xisto de Wheeler é uma referência fundamental da paleontologia câmbrica, preservando trilobites, organismos de corpo mole e artrópodes raros com uma fidelidade excecional.

I’ve probably ordered jewel beetle elytra from at least 15 different companies by now so when it comes to quality elytra I know my stuff and the quality that I just received from ArtButterflies is truly excellent. I would say that the average size from the 1,000 elytra package that I received is slightly larger than average, it’s a good mix of sizes. The shipping was also prompt considering that they are located in the UK and I live in Michigan. It took exactly 10 days to receive my order. If I ever need more jewel beetle elytra I will definitely buy from ArtButterflies again. Thank you!
