坎巴巴碧玉是一種沉積岩，由微晶石英與層狀石（Stromatolites）交織而成——這些層狀石是由藍綠菌及其他原始微生物形成的古老化石群落。這些層狀石是地球上已知最古老的化石之一，使每件標本都成為真正古老的自然歷史珍品。其獨特的深綠色球狀紋理，直接記錄了超過三十億年前的生命痕跡。
