Der riesige Atlas-Käfer gehört zur Unterfamilie Dynastinae (Rhinoceroskäfer) innerhalb der Familie Scarabaeidae. Männchen weisen die charakteristische Dreihorn-Morphologie auf: ein markantes Kopfhorn und zwei Brustfortsätze, die bei Revierkämpfen eingesetzt werden. Diese prächtigen Käfer zählen zu den größten und kräftigsten Insekten der Erde.
