Euphaea variegata è una damigella dai motivi riccamente variegati appartenente alla famiglia Euphaeidae, diffusa nell’Asia meridionale e sudorientale lungo ruscelli e fiumi circondati da foreste. Il nome della specie, variegata — che significa variegata o caratterizzata da una colorazione variata — descrive perfettamente i complessi e mutevoli motivi delle ali e del corpo che distinguono questa specie dalle congeneri. Come tutte le Euphaea, è una damigella robusta e relativamente grande, con una calda colorazione alare tendente all’ambra, ma variegata si distingue in particolare per l’intricata variabilità delle sue marcature, che rende ogni esemplare sottilmente unico. In posizione ad ali aperte, i motivi variegati e le proporzioni eleganti ne fanno un esemplare visivamente affascinante e tassonomicamente interessante per qualsiasi serie di Euphaeidae o collezione di Odonata.
