Laccotrephes pfeiferiae è un emittero acquatico predatore della famiglia Nepidae — gli scorpioni d’acqua — diffuso in tutto il Sud-est asiatico. Nominata in onore del naturalista Pfeifer, è una specie che esemplifica gli straordinari adattamenti predatori del genere: un corpo allungato e appiattito, adatto a muoversi furtivamente tra la vegetazione acquatica, potenti zampe anteriori raptatorie per tendere agguati alle prede e il caratteristico lungo sifone caudale, che funge da tubo respiratorio sulla superficie dell’acqua. Raramente presente nelle collezioni, pfeiferiae è un esemplare interessante e poco comune per i collezionisti con un interesse particolare per gli Emitteri acquatici, l’entomofauna del Sud-est asiatico o l’affascinante e poco rappresentato mondo degli insetti acquatici veri.
