Laccotrephes pfeiferiae è un insetto acquatico predatore appartenente alla famiglia Nepidae — gli scorpioni d'acqua — diffuso nel Sud-est asiatico. Intitolato al naturalista Pfeifer, è una specie che esemplifica le straordinarie adattazioni predatrici del genere: un corpo allungato e appiattito per muoversi furtivamente nella vegetazione acquatica, potenti zampe anteriori rapaci per tendere agguati alle prede e il caratteristico lungo sifone caudale che funziona come tubo respiratorio sulla superficie dell’acqua. Raramente presente nelle collezioni, pfeiferiae è un esemplare raro e prezioso per collezionisti con un interesse particolare per gli Hemiptera acquatici, l’entomofauna del Sud-est asiatico o il mondo affascinante e poco rappresentato delle vere cimici acquatiche.
