Rhombodera basalis è una robusta mantide scudo del genere Rhombodera, originaria di Giava e del più ampio arcipelago indonesiano. Come le specie affini, è caratterizzata dal pronoto ampio e dilatato che dà al gruppo il nome comune, abbinato a un corpo solido e ben sviluppato e a una vivace colorazione verde. Endemica di Giava e appartenente a un genere noto per le dimensioni e la morfologia imponenti, javana è una specie di grande interesse biogeografico regionale e dal forte fascino visivo — un esemplare preparato con le appendici distese, elegante e appagante, che arricchisce qualsiasi serie di Rhombodera o collezione di Mantodea del Sud-est asiatico.
