Membro della famiglia Hymenopodidae, si distingue immediatamente per il suo addome a bande bianche e nere, la vivace colorazione rosa, bianca e verde, e le ornate estensioni lobate sulle zampe che contribuiscono al suo aspetto mimetico da fiore. Il nome della specie elegans è del tutto appropriato — poche mantidi combinano una tale vivacità cromatica con un motivo così raffinato.
