Membro del genere Euphaea — caratterizzato da dimensioni relativamente grandi, struttura potente e colorazione delle ali ricca di toni ambra o arancioni — subnodalis si distingue per la particolare distribuzione della pigmentazione alare, con la colorazione concentrata vicino ai nodi delle ali in un motivo che dà il nome alla specie.
