A luminous example of Eupholus geoffroyi — a jewel weevil from the family CURCULIONIDAE named in honour of Étienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire (1772–1844), the visionary French naturalist and anatomist who proposed the radical idea that all animals share a common structural plan — a concept that prefigured modern evolutionary biology. His intellectual courage in challenging the orthodoxies of his day placed him among the most forward-thinking naturalists of the Enlightenment era. A species bearing his name carries that spirit of discovery and bold thinking. As a member of the genus Eupholus, geoffroyi embodies the visual brilliance the genus is celebrated for — vivid gem-like banding in electric blues, greens, and blacks that make the jewel weevils of New Guinea the most coveted weevils in the world. Dry-preserved to A1 museum standard, this specimen retains its full chromatic intensity and surface detail.
