Neolithic Agate Axe Head | Ténéré, Sahara | c. 4500–6000 Years Old

A substantial and finely finished Neolithic axe head knapped from flint/agate, with an intact cutting edge and a beautiful natural patina. Originating from the Ténéré region of the Saharan Neolithic (Tenerean culture), this piece was crafted by the same skilled artisans who produced the distinctive leaf-shaped arrowheads characteristic of the period.

Agate — exceptionally hard and fine-grained — was a prized raw material for both functional tools and prestige objects. This example is notably large and heavy, yet displays the careful finishing typical of high-quality Tenerean lithic work. No restorations.

Dimensions: 145 × 74 mm
Material: Flint/Agate
Age: c. 4500–6000 years (Neolithic, Tenerean)
Region: Ténéré, Sahara

Provenance: From a Belgian private collection; acquired at auction.
