O âmbar dominicano é consideravelmente mais raro e mais difícil de obter do que o seu equivalente báltico. Embora o âmbar báltico seja mais antigo e recuperado em maior abundância, o âmbar dominicano — formado a partir da resina da árvore leguminosa extinta Hymenaea protera — é valorizado pela sua clareza excecional e pela notável frequência e qualidade das suas inclusões.
Sobre as inclusões no âmbar
As inclusões no âmbar são organismos sepultados em resina de árvores antigas — não seiva de árvore — há milhões de anos. À medida que a resina envolvia o espécime, iniciava um processo natural de polimerização, endurecendo primeiro em copal e, ao longo de milhões de anos de soterramento e pressão geológica, transformando-se finalmente em âmbar verdadeiro. O resultado é uma janela para um mundo perdido: organismos preservados com um detalhe extraordinário, suspensos no tempo como se tivessem sido capturados apenas ontem.
