Zygonyx ida is a powerful and fast-flying torrent hawk dragonfly within the family Libellulidae, distributed across South and Southeast Asia. The genus Zygonyx — the torrent hawks — is specialised for life along fast-flowing rivers and waterfalls, where these strong, agile fliers patrol turbulent water with remarkable precision and speed. Named after Ida, a figure from classical mythology, Zygonyx ida is a robust and handsomely marked species with the elongated, powerful build characteristic of the genus, well adapted to the demanding conditions of its torrent habitat.
