Anas platyrhynchos domesticus (Domestic Duck) – A museum-quality bird skull specimen in A1 condition, expertly dry-preserved and unmounted, ideal for natural history collectors, ornithologists, educators, and artists.
Anas platyrhynchos domesticus is the domestic duck — one of the oldest and most globally widespread domesticated birds, derived from the wild Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) through thousands of years of selective breeding across Asia and Europe. As a domesticated form, it presents a compelling case study in the skeletal effects of domestication — with the skull exhibiting subtle but measurable divergence from its wild ancestor, including a broader, more robust bill, a slightly enlarged cranium, and altered proportions reflecting generations of artificial selection for size, temperament, and productivity. The anatid skull is a robust and well-proportioned example of waterfowl cranial osteology — featuring the characteristic broad, flattened bill with its distinctive lamellate filtering structures along the tomia, a broad cranium, and large orbital cavities clearly preserved in this specimen. An accessible, scientifically instructive, and visually striking addition to any natural history collection, comparative anatomy study, or educational display — and a tangible record of one of humanity’s most enduring relationships with the avian world.
Perfect for ornithologists, naturalists, natural history collectors, educators, artists, and interior designers seeking authentic specimens with genuine scientific and aesthetic value.
