Welcome to BugsDirect Ltd. Leading Suppliers of Worldwide Entomology Specimens (Retail/Wholesale)
Spectacular unmounted pairs of the Five-horned Rhinoceros Beetle (Eupatorus gracilicornis), one of Southeast Asia's most impressive and sought-after beetle species. These A1 grade specimens showcase the species' extraordinary morphology, including the male's distinctive five-pronged cephalic and thoracic horns.
Perfect for entomology collections, scientific study, taxidermy projects, natural history displays, and insect art.
Scientific Name: Eupatorus gracilicornis
Common Name: Five-horned Rhinoceros Beetle
Family: Scarabaeidae
Origin: Thailand
Size: Approximately 75mm (males with horns)
Quality Grade: A1 - Museum Quality
Condition: Unmounted, relaxed specimens
Quantity: Sold as pairs (1 male, 1 female) or packs of 10 male / 10 female
The Five-horned Rhinoceros Beetle is a spectacular member of the Dynastinae subfamily, renowned for the male's elaborate horn structure. Males possess five distinct horns: two on the head (cephalic horns) and three on the thorax (pronotal horns), used in combat with rival males for access to feeding sites and mates.
Sexual Dimorphism: Males are significantly larger and feature the characteristic five-horn arrangement, while females are smaller with minimal horn development, making pairs ideal for comparative study.
Natural History: Found in tropical forests of Southeast Asia, these beetles are nocturnal and feed on tree sap and fermenting fruit. Larvae develop in rotting wood over 1-2 years before pupating.
Each specimen is carefully selected and graded A1 for:
For Collectors: A centrepiece species for any Coleoptera collection. The dramatic sexual dimorphism and impressive size make these beetles highly desirable display specimens.
For Entomologists: Ideal for studying beetle morphology, sexual dimorphism, horn development, and Scarabaeidae taxonomy. Excellent teaching specimens for comparative anatomy.
For Artists & Taxidermists: Unmounted specimens allow for custom positioning and creative display arrangements. Perfect for shadow boxes, Riker mounts, resin casting, or entomological art installations.
For Photography: The intricate horn structure and metallic sheen photograph beautifully. Ideal for macro photography and natural history documentation.
Specimens are supplied unmounted, ready for pinning, spreading, or alternative display methods. Standard entomological mounting involves pinning through the right elytron, but these beetles also work well in resin, dome displays, or custom taxidermy arrangements.
Recommended Tools: Size 3-5 entomological pins, spreading board (optional), setting strips, insect pins for leg positioning.
All specimens are ethically sourced from sustainable populations in Thailand. We work only with established suppliers who adhere to international wildlife trade regulations and local conservation laws.
Store unmounted specimens in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight. Keep in sealed containers with naphthalene or paradichlorobenzene to prevent pest damage. Once mounted, display away from humidity and strong light to preserve colour and condition.
Specimens are carefully packaged to prevent damage during transit.
We specialise in premium entomological specimens with a commitment to quality, ethical sourcing, and scientific accuracy. Every beetle is hand-selected, graded to museum standards, and backed by our expertise in Coleoptera.
Whether you're building a world-class collection, teaching the next generation of entomologists, or creating natural history art, our Five-horned Rhinoceros Beetle pairs offer exceptional quality and educational value.
Specimens are natural products and may vary slightly in size and colouration. Each pair includes one male and one female.
