About Neurobasis kaupi pavo

Neurobasis kaupi pavo is a subspecies of Neurobasis kaupi — a close relative of the celebrated Green Metalwing (N. chinensis) and a member of the same spectacular genus within the family Calopterygidae. The subspecies name pavo — Latin for peacock — is a fitting tribute to the iridescent, peacock-like metallic wing colouration that characterises the males of this taxon, with shimmering blue-green tones that rival the most spectacular Odonata in the world. Distributed across parts of New Guinea and the surrounding island region, kaupi pavo represents a biogeographically distinct and rarely encountered form, making it a genuinely exceptional and coveted specimen for serious Calopterygidae or Australasian Odonata collectors. In spread position, the iridescent wing colouration is displayed to full and breathtaking effect.

Perfect for entomologists, natural history collectors, educators, artists, interior designers seeking authentic Victorian cabinet aesthetics, and anyone passionate about the extraordinary diversity of the insect world.
