Heliocypha fenestrata is one of the most visually spectacular damselflies in Southeast Asia — a jewel damselfly within the family Chlorocyphidae, a group renowned for producing some of the most brilliantly coloured and iridescent Odonata in the world. Distributed along clear, sunlit forest streams across the region, fenestrata is distinguished by its vivid metallic body colouration and the striking white or pale ‘window’ patches on its wings that give the species its name (fenestrata: windowed). Males are particularly spectacular, flashing their wing patches in territorial and courtship displays that make them among the most dazzling insects in their habitat.
