Hierodula venosa is a distinctive praying mantis within the large and diverse genus Hierodula, found across South and Southeast Asia. The species is characterised by its notably veined wing patterning — as its name suggests — which gives it a more textured and visually intricate appearance than many of its congeners. A solidly built mantis in the classic Hierodula mould, venosa makes a handsome spread specimen that displays its wing venation and body structure to excellent effect, and is a worthwhile addition to any Mantodea collection or comparative study of the genus.
