Vestalis luctuosa (Order: ODONATA) – A museum-quality gossamer-wing damselfly specimen in A1 condition, expertly dry-preserved and spread for collectors, educators, and natural history enthusiasts.
Vestalis luctuosa is a strikingly beautiful damselfly within the family Calopterygidae — the metalwings and demoiselles — distributed across Southeast Asia along clear, shaded forest streams. The genus Vestalis is celebrated for the extraordinary iridescent wing colouration of its males, and luctuosa — meaning mournful or dark — is distinguished by its deep, smoky blue-black iridescent wings that shimmer with an intense metallic lustre in changing light. This dark iridescence creates a dramatic and sophisticated visual effect quite unlike the brighter metalwings, lending luctuosa an air of elegant restraint that makes it particularly appealing to discerning collectors. In spread position, the full extent of the dark iridescent wing colouration is revealed in all its depth and complexity — a refined, unusual, and genuinely captivating specimen for any Calopterygidae or Southeast Asian Odonata collection.
Perfect for entomologists, natural history collectors, educators, artists, interior designers seeking authentic Victorian cabinet aesthetics, and anyone passionate about the extraordinary diversity of the insect world.
