A genuine Eocene fossil fish, preserved in fine-grained matrix from the ancient freshwater lakes of North America.
Fish fossils from the Eocene epoch (33.9–56 million years ago) represent some of the earliest well-preserved vertebrate remains in the fossil record. As schooling species, prehistoric fish are frequently found in remarkable proximity to one another — occasionally even stacked on top of each other — offering a vivid glimpse into the dynamics of ancient aquatic life. The study of these specimens falls within the discipline of paleoichthyology, and their abundance makes them one of the most accessible entry points into serious fossil collecting.
These are genuine fossils. It is common for preparers to apply a brown protective stain to the matrix and to lightly reconstruct fin positions to contextualise the specimen — a standard practice that aids interpretation without detracting from the fossil's authenticity. Each piece is hand-selected from stock within the stated size range; colour, matrix character, and preservation detail will vary as with any natural specimen. The image shown is representative only.

This was part of a double order, same as my other review. I’m new to pinning as a hobby in my spare time. From what I can tell they’re good specimens with plenty of variety. My only gripe is that they didn’t come with ID but that wouldn’t stop me from ordering again. Hopefully ID can be added to future purchases.
