Welcome to BugsDirect Ltd. Leading Suppliers of Worldwide Entomology Specimens (Retail/Wholesale)
Ammonites were cephalopod molluscs — relatives of today's nautilus and squid — that dominated the world's oceans for over 300 million years before their extinction at the end of the Cretaceous period. Named after the ram-horned Egyptian god Ammon, whose coiled horns their shells resemble, they ranged in size from a few millimetres to over two metres in diameter. This matched pair, sourced from Madagascar and dating to the Lower Cretaceous approximately 115 million years ago, has been cut and polished to reveal the extraordinary internal geometry that made ammonites one of nature's most studied and celebrated fossils.
Sliced precisely through the centre, each half exposes the intricate septa and suture lines that divided the shell into a series of gas-filled chambers — the buoyancy system that allowed the animal to control its depth in the water column. The iridescent mineralisation characteristic of Madagascan ammonites gives the polished faces a shifting, jewel-like quality in natural light. Supplied with display stands, the pair can be presented together as a matched set or displayed separately.

Perfect, thank you! Really appreciate
Beautiful specimens, had a problem with customs in my country but it wasn't that big an issue. Can't wait to buy more eventually!!
Beautiful. Thank You, I love it :-)
These are really big! Perfect specimens in perfect condition on arrival. Very pleased!
Really beautiful specimens. Perfectly spread and in perfect condition. Recommend
Fantastic specimens. Perfect and very pleased, thankyou!
This was part of a double order, same as my other review. I’m new to pinning as a hobby in my spare time. From what I can tell they’re good specimens with plenty of variety. My only gripe is that they didn’t come with ID but that wouldn’t stop me from ordering again. Hopefully ID can be added to future purchases.
As someone who’s just started pinning, I don’t know a lot. From what I can see they are good specimens with a good variety. Would definitely order again. My only gripe is that they don’t come with ID.
These were really great! Lots of variety and will be useful, thank you!
