Orthoceras were straight-shelled nautiloid cephalopods that inhabited the world's oceans during the Ordovician and Silurian periods — some of the earliest complex predators in Earth's history, living over 400 million years ago. Unlike the coiled ammonites and goniatites, Orthoceras had long, tapering, conical shells that give these bookends their bold, graphic quality: dark elongated forms cutting through pale Moroccan limestone in a pattern that is as striking as it is ancient.
These wedge-form bookends pair a clean, practical silhouette with genuine fossil detail — equally at home on a working bookshelf or displayed as a natural history object in their own right. Because every piece is cut from natural stone, no two pairs share the same fossil density, arrangement, or surface colouration. What arrives is entirely its own.
