Among the Yaoure people of central Côte d'Ivoire, miniature masks — known as passport masks — carry the same ritual significance as their full-sized counterparts. Carved to welcome ancestral spirits, they serve primarily as protective objects for the bearer, guarding against witchcraft and malevolent forces. They may also be used in divination, placed as altar objects to receive offerings, or worn as marks of rank and lineage.
The hornbill surmounting this mask is a potent symbol within Yaoure iconography, representing teaching and protection — reinforcing the dual function of the object as both a spiritual shield and a marker of status.

This was part of a double order, same as my other review. I’m new to pinning as a hobby in my spare time. From what I can tell they’re good specimens with plenty of variety. My only gripe is that they didn’t come with ID but that wouldn’t stop me from ordering again. Hopefully ID can be added to future purchases.
