This exceptional set of six genuine flint spires dates to the Neolithic period, c.4000–8000 BCE, and originates from the coastal region of Western Sahara — an area of significant prehistoric human settlement. Knapped from local flint by skilled Neolithic craftspeople, spires of this type are among the rarer forms of lithic tool production, and finding examples in good, unrestored condition is increasingly uncommon. This set represents a genuine opportunity for the serious collector.
Flint spires are elongated, pointed blade forms produced through controlled pressure or percussion flaking — a technique demanding considerable skill and an intimate knowledge of the stone's fracture properties. Their precise function is debated among archaeologists, with proposed uses ranging from projectile points and awls to ritual or prestige objects. What is certain is that their production required a level of craft mastery that speaks to the sophistication of Neolithic communities along the North African coast.
