A substantial Neolithic axe head knapped from vivid green jasper, sourced from the Ténéré region of northern Niger. Dating to approximately 4500–6000 years ago, this piece represents the skilled lithic craftsmanship of Saharan Neolithic cultures at a time when the region supported thriving human populations.
Green jasper — prized for its exceptional hardness and fine grain — was a preferred material for functional tools, particularly woodworking implements. This example retains strong form and characteristic colouration.
