Ranatra longipes celebensis is a striking predatory aquatic bug within the family Nepidae, native to the island of Sulawesi (Celebes) in Indonesia. A subspecies of the widespread Ranatra longipes, the celebensis form is distinguished by its exceptionally elongated, stick-like body — one of the most slender and graceful forms within the genus. Like all Ranatra, it is a stealthy ambush predator of aquatic invertebrates and small vertebrates, equipped with raptorial forelegs and a long caudal siphon used for breathing at the water surface. Its island endemism and elegant proportions make celebensis a particularly desirable and uncommon specimen for collectors with an interest in aquatic Hemiptera, Sulawesian biodiversity, or the remarkable diversity of the true bugs.
